It's been a while since I've posted last. Mainly because I've been having to pull myself out of this deep funk that I've been in lately. Between wanting so desperately to find a house that we can afford and trying to find a job, it's just been a little depressing. I'm ok.. mentally exhausted.. but ok. I am, however, working on a few projects by myself. Just some ideas for some rooms. Because we are saving for a house money is limited; therefore, I haven't been the most social person. AutoCAD has been my best friend lately. I love that I can throw on some trance music and just draw til my hearts content. The most recent CAD project for me has been designing a budget realistic office for myself and the many design essentials that seem to follow me around. Here are some of the preliminary drawings of it:

A: tabletop to put my drafting table on
B: Flat Files
C: Computer Desk
D: Countertop w/open slots underneath for boards
E & F: Upper & lower cabinet storage
G: Cubbie hole storage

This is the elevation from the center with the center island included. The corner upper cabinets will be open shelving. I also plan to have a cork and maybe magnetic backsplash between the uppers and lowers.

This is the elevation of the flatfiles and some pens/pencils/markers holders I came up with. It will be a solid piece of wood that angles slightly off the wall and has holes cut into them. In the holes, there will be plastic buckets to catch the markers, etc.

I'm ready to be done packing...

Tim & I went to go look at open houses last Sunday. We found an amazing house that we would love to have. Except the fact that it just had to be $150,000 more than what we can afford! It was one of the New England style houses... 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths... huge bonus room upstairs for all of my design stuff... it was absolutely perfect for us right now, and would have lasted us a VERY long time. The good news is that it's been on the market for over 2 years.. and it's pre-foreclosure... so maybe it'll stay on the market for a while longer, and the price will drop dramatically. In the mean time, hopefully SOMEONE will call me back on a job. Money would be so nice right now.

Moving is never fun. I'm taking a break at my mom's from cleaning my old room. This is the same room that Tim & I are going to be living in for a while. I'm loving the idea of being closer to my mom now that we have this awesome relationship. But I must admit, remembering how it was living here when I was a teenager is slightly haunting me. I know it'll be very different, especially now that the "boyfriend room" has been converted into a small office. Tim & I have just figured out that we don't live well with others, so I'm hoping it doesn't hurt our relationship. We'll be fine.. it'll just be hard. I keep reminding him to think positively. That we're saving money so we can buy a good house and do with it what we want. It's torcher being an interior designer who is bound by her lease not to paint walls. Anyway, back to packing....

Ok... I'm dying to get a job. I've applied pretty much everywhere and haven't heard anything positive. I've gone on one interview somewhere where I'd LOVE to work, but I still haven't heard back from them.

On another note, the husband and I are probably going to be moving out of Conway and into Maumelle... with my mother. Yeah, I know... but it will give us an opportunity to save some money while I'm not working. It's nice because she has an entire second story that she doesn't use! Plus, we won't have to worry about getting out of a lease when we do finally find a house to buy.

So.. for the next month, I will be spending 1/2 of my time at our apartment getting stuff ready to move.. and the other 1/2 at my mom's trying to move stuff around so we can move in.

... let's make a deal...

  • ok.. so today was nuts. I drove around EVERYWHERE trying to find some tile that I couldn't get sent to me in time for the wine & design contest. only to find them at my front door when i got home. good grief.
  • now.. to see if i can get into the CAD lab at UCA even though, i'm no longer in school. it's past time for me to buy a new computer. i have 6 cds full of CAD and REVIT... just waiting to be loaded on a computer that can actually handle it.
  • in all my other running around... i couldn't find anyone who carried 24 x 36 black foamcore (you would so think that this would be a pretty standard size.)... but the very nice man @ art outfitters helped me out by finding a piece he could cut down. he even gave me a great price on it.
  • i'm counting down til idol tonight.. i can't wait!!! Kris did amazing last night.. and i love adam.. but i'm really tired of seeing his tongue!!!
  • now it's time to make dinner, wash clothes, work on the contest & get ready for tmr.. i need a nap!!!!

day 1 in the real world...

It still hasn't kicked in yet that I'm not in school anymore. Maybe by the end of this week. I'm still doing my internship at Workplace Resource. But I'm dying to have a "real" "grown-up" job. Preferably doing what I went to school for...
